Not on brass. I don’t even use coolant when doing steels. I just apply as needed with a squirt bottle.
I have built an new lathe now though. It doesn’t use coolant either. I only use coolant on my mill.

Great video, although tI’ve never worked with metal myself would you need some coolant for the peck drilling?

I got this on EBAY. You can buy them from Little Machine Shop as well.

I think so.
Mach 3 also has a Turn program that is setup better to do a lathe. It has wizards and stock turning options that are designed for a lathe.

Hi Jon.
Those were some nicely designed parts you have. They did work well on this. I liked them also because they don’t modify the machine any. It could be restored to it’s full manual glory with just a little time.
This machine is now decommissioned though. I just got my new lathe completed and will post a video soon.
Thanks again.

That was just a 300 grit sanding sponge. You can get those at any hardware store.

Leeway, I like seeing my plans in action on someone else’s lathe! I like the tailstock! A more appropriate letter for it might be W rather than Y.

I’m new to this, can you use the mach 3 mill program to run any mini lathe

Actually the peck drill cycle uses both the Y and Z axes. The spindle on a lathe is the Z axis. The tailstock normally isn’t motorized. By using the Mach 3 mill program, the Y axis is left over. The X is the tool holder. I just label the code for the tailstock as Y and all is well. Thanks.

Y axis? you mean Z axis no?
