nice job on the plate! i want to make one of those but i have a small problem. i have a bunch of logs but no way to cut them like what you have. my dad thinks a bandsaw is too dangerous and i think it is dangerous but i wish i could still use one. i have a chainsaw but it’s small. anyway i can make boards from logs like what you did? i would also need to do this for segmented turning since i don’t buy any of my wood.

i am a turner and i started in schools woddshop class. i was wondering if you know how to make a bell and if so can you make a vid showing it.

Awesome – glad to hear there’s another turner out there. It’s been a while since we shot that video – I believe it’s actually poplar… it’s a little softer but we like the way it turns. Good Luck.

lol yeah, its good to know a bit about both mediums, some of the skills are interchangeable…for example you can actually turn aluminum on a wood lathe….blunts your tools a little quicker than wood, but you will get clean results

As a machinist for 20 years machining metals this is a lot different than I thought it would be. For instance, I would never have thought to lay the work piece down and remove the chuck from the lathe and put it on the work piece, then put it back on the lathe. I would have tried to hold the work piece flat against the chuck on the lathe and tighten the chuck.
