This is a custom built spinning lathe used to spin form parts from flat metal blanks. We engineered & built the machine to meet the customer’s requirement of 3″ to 46″ diameter, and a draw depth up to 24″. It can accept a CNC program from disk, or a program can be created and/or modified using an SS Systems Mach3 custom screen via the onboard programming console, or can be programmed manually using the dual MPGs on the pendant, the moves can then be recorded and saved as G-Code moves to …

Most shops have their own circling shear machines to cut round blanks from sheet stock, but most sheet metal supply companies can cut them for you, for an added fee of course.

where can you get the metal blanks to use for the machine?

We have produced automated turning centers, high speed industrial sewing machines, drilling/boring machines, tubing fixtures, custom automotive & motorcycle parts, and build complete custom cycles.
We have used Allen-Bradly, Schneider, Red Lion, Modicon, Kollmorgen, Slo-Syn, Etc, but this machine utilizes SureServo motion and a Mach control interface… the 5 HP spindle is controlled via Hitachi VFD. Thanks for your comment!

Holy crap thats awsome! What other machines can you guys build? That is a sweet machine! I own a small CNC machine shop here in Ohio. In college our class built a custom 4′ x 4′ CNC router using Allen Bradly’s Control Logix PLC. I would love to do metal spinning at my shop. Great video!

would you like a trumpet made of cast brass? it wouldnt sound very good. spinning makes much lighter, consistant and better stuff.

This application is for a lighting fixture, typically a cast part is rough finished and difficult to polish, also, the composition of aluminum alloy for anodizing & bright dipping may not be practical for casting. Spinning is also a quicker method for prototyping and short-run part rendering… Good question though, thanks.

cant that object just have been cast…it would save a lot of time and money…
