Thanks Jet! The instructors discussion of how to hollow was very useful and the camera angles showed me how to attack a bowl.

I have made many pens and this along with some other resources encourage me to make some bowls.

And since I had a fig tree drop in the yard recently, I have a virtually endless supply of wood to practice with.

    Midgets are nice people, Than

hey – it’s not different, it’s just a choice we made – we hope you learn to be a better woodturner because of it – in the end, you make your own choices! Have fun!

Very interesting! I was a machinist for 20 years working with metals and this is way different. After you turned the work piece around the first thing I would have done was face it off, cleaned off all the bark and made a flat face on it, Then start hollowing it out. From what you have shown I would have been wrong.
I just got my first wood lathe (Jet 1014 VS) and this is going to be more different than I thought. ;-)

Thanks for the comment – great suggestion. In the future we may try to do that to make things easier for everyone to see. If you look at the video now – the logo on the handle follows the hollow of the blade. Thanks again!

Thanks for posting this. I went home last night and made this bowl. Your instructions for hollowing out the inside were very good. With the resolutions that you get on YouTube, it is difficult to see the orientation of the tool and where the bevel is. Perhaps you could paint a line on the end of the handle so that you can see how you turn to tool. At 4:40 you can clearly see the end.

Again … thanks for posting this. More like these please.

No problem – This project is not that “easy” but once you have a basic mastery of your lathe, you should be able to do a project like this too.

You really make this look easy – thanks.
