5 Axis Jog-Learn Spinning Lathe Mach3 in action
by Lathe on Feb.06, 2010, under Lathe Videos
This is a vidio of a 5 Axis Jog-Learn Spinning Lathe that I designed and built the Conttrol system with Mach3. It has custom Scrrens, Custom Plugin, Macropump, dual function pendant with 2Z-bot mpgs, or you can select a 2 axis jog ball for compound curves, you can run 2 axis at the same time for programming. It records all your moves on all 5 axis. X, Z is standard lathe, A/B is 8 tool turret and angle of attack, Y is the backer wheel for Flanging. The Drives are Automation Direct sureservo, it has 2 bob’s One from cncbuildingblocks and one from CNC4PC. Vic Russel of “Russels Metal Spinning” commisioned me for the Control system. The Crew at Russels metal spinning are responsible for the physical/Mechanical machine build, in which they did and excellent job. If you need a Control system, by all means contact me at SS Systems, LLC or poppabear at the www.Machsupport.com forum site. Scott

I just built the control system, The owner and crew of Russels metal spinning built the mechanical machine. I think he estimates he has about 60K in the machine, since it is a “Commercial Grade” prototype. Having built this one, he thinks knowing what he knows now he would build it for about 30K, and that includes labor.

What did that lathe cost you about?

Good job. I bet your happy with Scott and the setup and especially the price. In these days it good to see the little bloke getting into the realms of where the big boys are and not having to pay 10′s of thousands of dollars for. Plus you can make what you want and not what someone thinks you want. Have fun with the nice machine.
Rich.
