Does anyone know of a museum that has old machines in it, such as a 100 year old metal working lathe ?
by Lathe on Apr.05, 2009, under Engineering
I have an old working metal lathe, made around 100 years ago and wondered if some collector or museum might want to display it. I live in a rural area, but I wondered if somewhere there is a museum or technical college that would love to show how metal work was done in the early 1900’s.

I’m wondering what kind of machine most brake specialty shops use. I’d guess they use whatever is fastest. Is it easier to set up an on-car lathe or to the remove the rotor?

When setting up a metal turning lathe, why is it so important that the lathe bed is set accurately horizontal?
by Lathe on Mar.24, 2009, under Engineering
I have been told that setting the lathe bed horizontal is important for the accuracy of the lathe but I cannot understand how it affects it. I understand that the lathe bed should be horizontal but I don’t understand why it is so important to be to be set very accurately.
