by Lathe on Dec.04, 2009, under Lathe Videos
I just bought this Atlas 10″ TH42 lathe. It had so much old oil or grease crud that you could hardly move the carriage.. I took it apart, cleaned it and oiled it up and now all the parts move freely. Does anyone know of a museum that has old machines in it, such as a 100 year old metal working lathe ?
by Lathe on Apr.05, 2009, under Engineering
I have an old working metal lathe, made around 100 years ago and wondered if some collector or museum might want to display it. I live in a rural area, but I wondered if somewhere there is a museum or technical college that would love to show how metal work was done in the early 1900’s.

When setting up a metal turning lathe, why is it so important that the lathe bed is set accurately horizontal?
by Lathe on Mar.24, 2009, under Engineering
I have been told that setting the lathe bed horizontal is important for the accuracy of the lathe but I cannot understand how it affects it. I understand that the lathe bed should be horizontal but I don’t understand why it is so important to be to be set very accurately.
